Nightshelter wins "Best Attire" at inaugural Winchester pancake race!

We came, we flipped, we conquered! That was how the inaugural Winchester Cathedral and Winchester Rotary pancake race unfolded for the Nightshelter's team, Fighting Flipping Homelessness, as we stormed to victory...in the best attire category.

The event, which was held outside Winchester cathedral on Shrove Tuesday, saw 20 teams representing local organisations including schools, retailers, businesses, charities, emergency services, armed forces and civic groups race head-to-head down a 30m course, with frying pans and pancakes in hand. Each team member was required to flip their pancake three times along the route - a difficult task, given the high winds on the day! The overall award for fastest team went to St Bede's School, with the Nightshelter being very generously awarded the award for best attire - a nod to our bright orange t-shirts and, more importantly, the vital work we do for the community.

Michele Price, Nightshelter Manager, said: "We're always delighted to get involved with local events such as this - and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was terrific and the public really got behind the teams as they ran down the track. Of course it's a bit of fun, but the event also highlights how community-minded Winchester is. Our team - made up of staff, residents and volunteers - had a fantastic time. We try and involve our residents in as many activities as possible, and we were very pleased to have the opportunity to participate. We promise to be back next year, and even faster!"
